Singapore

I had a week break in October which coincided with Vince's conference in Singapore so I tagged along for a couple of days. It was amazing on the flight in to see the huge number of cargo ships.

Vince did have to work...here's the proof.

We had heard mixed reviews about Singapore and were determined to find it's finest outdoor/nature spaces and we were not disappointed. Google sent us to the Southern Ridges Walk which encompassed some road walking, a beautiful bridge called "the Henderson Wave" and a walkway about the trees. It was a superb day and once again we were really happy with the public transport which was so easy to navigate.

One section was "Mount Faber Park"

The bus stop.

Vince's doppleganger

Mount Faber runs a gondola to Universal Studios on the adjacent island.

Henderson Waves

Henderson Waves

Treetop walk....5 km in total.

Conveniently, there was a run in Singapore.

Gardens by The Bay. Incredible indoor gardens.

The flower area.

Waterfalls

Beautiful woodwork.

 Weird giant baby statue....called Lucas.

Dr. Suess-like structures tower over us in the gardens.

We stayed is a fairly touristy and upscale area called Clarks Quay which was beside the Singapore River. It made for easy access to anything including Western food in which we definitely indulged.

There were numerous bridges across the rivers and pathways on either side.  They all had stories and I think this was my favourite one.

We rode the bus most places

Most are double decker which afford great views.

We drove by came across some interesting buildings. Many of these look like renovated historical buildings.

Some make you miss home.

A visit to Little India.
Temple

Beautiful colour in the buildings.

I did my own tour to Fort Canning and tried to improve on my history.

I learned a bit and actually thought I was heading down into a bunker when I got to this spot.

After getting up my nerve to go down under, I turned the corner and next thing I knew I was back out on the street.

The view from the mount was nice and interesting that it used to have a lighthouse.

After walking, and walking I decided to head back to the hotel which mean up the hill and just like magic there is an escalator built into the hill.

We like to try and see things that are "off the beaten track" and this is one of them. It's a theme park built in the 1930s (and refurbished) by the owners of Tiger Balm.
It's called Haw Par Villa and depicts Chinese folklore and stories. The 10 courts of hell are the source of many a nightmare if you listen to the stories.

Haw Par Villa Gates

This plaque told their story which was a nice one.

Thailand?

No idea what these were...no story.

But I think Vince my start to get some bad luck.

Freaky

The scenes had so much detail and each had a story. Most were morals about theft, honesty etc.

Caught in a wave

Tiger balm tribute.

The owners car.

Opening to the 10 courts of hell....complete with warning and escape route part way through.

It was very visual...and this was mild compared to the last few courts.

Another tiger balm tiger.

Off to spend the second half of the week on the island of Koh Lanta.

My Saturday Morning Run Which turned into more of a Photoshoot

We have had a LOT of rain and it was nice to have a cloudy but nonthreatening Saturday to get out and run. Along the way I saw this giant snail.

Some pics of the beauty of the khlong.

This was one ferry, now two. Business must be up.

Always got to watch your step.

Always....this was whole 3 weeks ago.

I love that there is a Wat (temple) and Muai Thai boxing ring in the same space.

And one of my favourite little "farms". When we first got here, the runners I was with and I had a discussion about what these actually were.

About 7 cowish animals live here.

Across the khlong.

This bull kept braying at me and I was happy to be on this side.

A  neighbourhood got this newly paved waterway.

A goat....looking at me as if to say "mind you own business". I think he was trying to get away from all the chickens nearby and wanted some peace.

At the market...there are some funny things here and t-shirts with anything on them top the list.

Post run songtau ride downtown with Jenn....had to hop off because it u-turned. Taaaaaaxi!

The visual for our bus stop is getting waaaaaay more ornate than when we moved here.

...and I swear the steps are getting higher as we cross the road.
