Chang Mai, Chang Dao and Pai: A Long Post!!!

We are long overdue on posting so most of these will be pictures.

Michelle Crook came and visited us for a couple of days in Oct on her way to a month long course at a local hospital. We were lucky enough to meet up with her again in Chang Mai (Northern Thailand) where we all experienced our first "fish spa" at the Night Bazaar.

Me and my friends.

Visiting an umbrella company outside Chang Mai. Here is the entrance.

Manufacturing.

They are sun (not rain) umbreallas.

We decided to make this our first "road trip" and rented a pickup truck.

Classic traffic jam.

A scary buddha even when out of focus.

Hay bales.

 Literal translation.

Sri Lanna Resevoir where you rent houseboats and swim etc. I have seen what swims in the water here and I can happily pass on the one.

Boat launch

Pretty orange.

Carved ditches that seem to traverse and feed the fields.

Statue elephants in the fields.

Our hotel in Chang Dao. We were the only guests in our little cabin

So cute!!!

It's as big as the bed and that's it.

Carp.

It really felt like we were in the woods.

Love their love of elephants.

Vince escorted me on my morning run where, strangely enough, the soi dogs looked at us and went home.

The pool. Fall off the deck and you are in the pond....where creepy things live.

Beautiful rugged countryside. We were in search of caves. It's not easy to navigate since places have different spellings and sometimes even different names.

Google maps was wrong more than it was right....what road? It ended in a field.

We searched and finally found this cave

.....but we were not willing to walk in the long grass (snakes). Besides it didn't look well visited.

It's up there somewhere.

Yup, looks a little forlorn even at the road.

Driving through the mountains.

Hill tribes

The first sign of Christian religion. I mean to look into the history.

Gas station....although not obvious.

Waste no space. Plant right up to the road.

Beautiful red soil. Looks like they are getting some new drainage.

Tricolour beauty.

Hill tribe.

Waterfalls at Pha Daeng National Park

Love the sign.

These are all over Thailand. Pictures of the King and his wife.

Funny!

Entrance to Chang Dao Caves-well worth the visit.

Waterworks on the way up. There are always stairs going somewhere.

Inside to cave.

Vince, I think you are balding.

Bats...eeewwww.

We walked to a temple after the caves. These tress were huge!!

The beginning of 510 steps.

Resting spot.

Beautiful as it peaks out of the trees.

The detail is amazing.

The bottom stairs were not as fancy but kind of scary looking.

On the road again. The main "mountain" called doi Chang Dao.

A left turn at this sign led us to a temple under construction which was truly amazing.

Wet paint.

Typical soi (street) dogs

Fake sheep....why not?

Hiking to one of the many waterfalls in the area.

Found it!!!! Check out the rainbow.

Funny how our idea of "safe" has changed.

Hotspring! Which has a different effect when the air temp is already 30 deg +.

Super cool!!! You can boil an egg here.

Stuck in a rain storm eating Khao Pad Gai (chicken friend rice)

En francais!! Feels like home.

Road from Chang Mai to Pai (762 curves) of which many are S-turns.  Kelli and Nico both scooted this route on theirs SE Asia trips.

Scooter gang.

Totally random cows on the road.

Random horses.

At the War Memorial Bridge in Pai....not sure of the significance of this....

.....or this

Pai Canyon

Straight drop down!

Walking somewhere.

Random elephant riders.

Supercool tree house.

Visiting a white buddha. Still under construction.

Check out the size!!! I am bottom right.

Daunting

View from buddha. Beautiful to be in the country.

They use pulleys and a cart to move the materials.

Coffee stop. The cartoons on the scooters are so funny.

Our "cottage" in Pai.

In Pai

Huh?

Watching people take pics of each other posing on strawberries at "Strawberry Pai".

Things are sometimes so random.

Locks of love.

Truck full of body parts.

Back in Chang Mai at our cooking class.

Starting at The Market.

Making coconut milk/cream.

Ready to go!

Some of our fellow cooks-from Alaska.

Making curry paste.

So much fun!

Vince's amazing spring rolls.

So much food!!!

This is how you roll a spring roll

Chang Mai.
