Thai Demonstrations

We jumped in a taxi yesterday to go to Sammakon to visit our American friends for Thanksgiving dinner. After 25 minutes sitting in the taxi, in what turned out to be a parking lot with cars, we got out of the taxi and walked back to our starting point in about five minutes. Ramkhamhaeng normally  a four lane highway (in one direction) was at a standstill, all related to the recent demonstrations gripping downtown Bangkok.

Once at the Pak Soi we requested a couple of scooter taxis to take s the 6 km to Sammkon, to weave through the lanes of traffic.  Bridget jumped on one with the Bavarian Apple Torte  and I hopped on another as we slowly entered the lanes of cars, which were backed up for miles.

At an intersection I managed to get a shot of Bridget on the back of the scooter...

We proceeded down to Sammakon weaving through the lanes of vehicles. As we drove, I noticed that there were buses, pickup trucks and vans full of people with red shirts.. these are the demonstrators who are part of the political demonstrations that has hit Bangkok recently. Being were we are, we had not really seen any impact but has been growing larger recently.

I took my camera and shot some video while we whistled between the cars, I even got a brief glimpse of Bridget behind me and some of the red shirted demonstrators as well. You just have to watch out for mirrors!.

Our scooter drivers were very good and brought us directly to our destination and we had plenty of to be thankful for. Let's drink to that... and we did!

If you really want to know more on what's happening in Bangkok this is the best place to start..
