Mount Popa Day Trip (Near Bagan)

I really wanted to go and see this amazing temple on a mountain called Mount Popa so off we went. We shared a taxi with another couple which was a great decision.
On the way, the taxi driver parked behind what was a long line of cars and said that if he goes further he will get stuck and not be able to get back...too many cars. So we joined the walkers.

Mount Popa. You have to walk up but the tough part was finding out how to get to the steps.

We weren't really sure where we were going but decided that we need to go to the bathroom and took a pit stop. Literally.

I came out an there was a monk who said "electric toilet here". Too late but he was happy to show us the way to the temple down a little path. If you are going to trust anyone to lead you down the garden path, it may as well be a monk.

It became clear that we were taking the back way because when we eventually make it we realized we were coming in the back way. At one point we walked over a damn and then a huge pile of garbage.
We got to the bottom of the steps and saw the throngs of people.

Shoes must come off.

Some of the steps

Garbage all over

Great view! Well worth it.

On the way back we stopped at a place that makes palm sugar used in many Thai (and likely Burmese) dishes.

It is the same idea as maple syrup but from palms.

Some alcohol production was also involved

Coconut shedding

This might be the best thing I have ever taster....palm sugar mixed with coconut.

Grinding (I forget what). They do this in the morning while the weather is cool. A bull walks around and around.....and around.

The palm sugar mixed with nuts.....seriously amazing but I burned my tongue. Ouch!
